NSS ESN Biodiversity Race
Our students from TheWildSide, Cogitaire, and other passionate RGS girls recently showcased their enthusiasm and skills in the 3rd NSS ESN Biodiversity Race on 29 May. This exciting event saw participation from 40 teams representing 12 primary and secondary schools across six locations on the island. Their mission was to record research-grade observations of various species, including amphibians, birds, butterflies, moths, mammals, and reptiles. The participants collectively recorded an impressive total of 929 observations, covering 121 different species.
RGS was represented by four teams, each of which performed admirably and secured notable achievements:
'Highest number of Species with Research-grade Observations' Award (Secondary School Category)
-
2nd place: Team The Feathers Finders (27 species)
-
1st place: Team Avian Aces (33 species)
'Most Unique Observation' Award (Secondary School Category)
-
1st place: Team Birds 123 (Photo of the Common Rose Butterfly)
'Best-photographed Observation' Award (Secondary School Category)
-
3rd place: Team Avian Aces (Photo of a Plantain Squirrel)
Their efforts were also recognised in a Straits Times article, highlighting their educational journey.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated teachers in charge, Ms Audrey Chen, Mr Shaun De Souza, and Mr Tan Ying Yang, for their invaluable guidance and support in preparing our students for this competition.
